From 2001 through 2004 he used first-round picks on Richard Seymour, Ty Warren, and Vince Wilfork, all of them in the top 15. Belichick got left tackle Matt Light in the second round of the same draft he took Seymour.

Invest in both side of the lines with successful high picks, and great things will happen.
It's going to take us Chargers' fans a while to get used to this idea.
Luckily, Hortiz and Harbaugh are here to show us the light!

      Right....

Edit: If Clapp and Jaimes are on the final 53-man roster... something has gone drastically wrong.
Salyer had never played RG in his life (before last year)... I am not surprised he struggled. He's in his 2nd year.
Pipkins barely saw the field in his first 2 years. In his 3rd year... he got beat out by Storm Norton.
Zion played RG his rookie year (never played there before). He had a bad year @ his natural position last year.
There is no way in hell he is being replaced this year, though. IF Zion and Salyer continue to struggle this year @OG, they could/should be replaced until the Chargers get it right. Even then... it has NO bearing on the RT position. This is a strawman argument.

Only 2 games @RT. Gotta read the fine print. He played @RG zero game in college.

          Just so nobody is confused...

Playing Salyer @RT would be a big risk.
Playing Pipkins @RT has been a big risk.
          Go get a real RT.
Many, many college LT's have played RT in the NFL at a high level. Much smaller risk.

I remember 2 years ago in the championship game they moved Salyer from LT to RG because the blitz up the middle was killing them. Mostly Will Anderson I think.
Key adjustment that was big for Georgia.

I don't disagree but you thinking a RT will fix the entire OL is ridiculous. That's one of 4 spots that sucked....with his being the best of the 4, according to the performance bible.

Xavier Legette was a popular wide receiver prospect at the end of the bowl season because he was listed at 6-3, 229 pounds and had blazing speed. Turns out he's 6-1, 221. He ran a 4.39 forty today.

I really don't put much into the performances at the combine. I think they're well below in importance in comparison to what was done on the field. Last year Legette caught 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. That's 17.7 yards a reception. Very impressive. On the other hand, it's concerning that he did little for South Carolina in the four years before that: 42 receptions for 323 yards and five touchdowns.

I hope he's there for us in the mid-rounds.

The Chiefs got BLOWN OUT in the Super Bowl Eric Fisher was injured against the Bucs, leading them to trade a first-round pick for Orlando Brown the following offseason. Travis Kelce played in that 31-9 blowout loss in the Super Bowl against the Bucs, leading the Chiefs in receiving. So there's that, too.
He was a solid tackle but not worth a #1 overall pick. That was a weak draft though

JJ (Jonathan James) McCarthy * passed deep ball test, put ball exactly where it needed to be on corner routes
Joe Milton * stupid good arm strength, mechanics look better than they have, processing speed was a problem in college, makes throws others can't, still needs work on timing (has him rated ahead of Nix)
Bo Nix * balls hangs more than McCarthy/ball doesn't jump off his hand, arm strength is fine, not elite, prolly has enough pop in his arm, not much room for growth
Michael Penix * mediocre/below avg SB, does everything wrong, can really rope the ball on a line, ball placement is gonna be a problem, overthrows on fades/corner routes
Michael Pratt * no interest, avg Joe (no Joe Milton
Spencer Rattler * slow, athletic traits not there, ball placement not ideal, not a bad arm, not elite, passable
Kedon Slovis * underrated athlete, not deadly accurate, not even close on some of his throws, can't hit the out to save his life

Zion's performance has no bearing on what we do @RT in this draft.

Boltnut has never said that. He's on the record for a center in the second round.

If there were a Quenton Nelson in this draft I'm sure Boltnut would be all about him with our first-round pick. The best option for the offensive line with our fifth overall pick seems to be Alt, though. If Hortiz and Harbaugh don't want Alt there, so be it.
