Even in a loss, the Oakland Raiders know they have the right quarterback (Shutdown Co

Derek Carr made one mistake all day. It ended up killing the Oakland Raiders' chances for their first victory. With 1:12 left and Oakland trailing by three, Carr tried a deep throw down the left sideline, even though there was nothing really there and he didn't need to take that risk at that moment. Fellow rookie Jason Verrett made a great leaping interception and landed in bounds to seal the San Diego Chargers' 31-28 win. This loss will sting for the Raiders, who used up their moral victory for this season in a loss at New England. This one just hurts, and it dropped them to 0-5. But for a moment, let's forget that, because the Raiders found out one thing on Sunday that's far more important than the difference between 1-4 and 0-5. The Raiders have found their quarterback. There's really no doubt about it anymore. Carr was electric against a Chargers defense that ranked in the top five of the NFL before this week. He was 18-of-34 for 282 yards and four touchdowns, and he didn't exactly have a tremendous supporting cast. Guys like Brice Butler and Andre Holmes were among his top targets on Sunday. Carr made everybody look good. He played like a polished, talented veteran. The Raiders are going to score some upsets this season, probably because of the exciting second-round pick at quarterback, who was back on Sunday after dealing with a high ankle sprain. Carr didn't even miss a start due to the injury, thanks to the bye week. The Raiders probably should have upset the Chargers on Sunday, and San Diego looks like one of the best teams in football. In this season for the Raiders that has been so helpless that the head coach has already been fired and the possibility of 0-16 isn't outrageous given a rough schedule, Carr's emergence is an incredible bright spot. The Raiders have been looking for a franchise quarterback since Rich Gannon. They've finally found one. And in today's NFL, that's the most important piece of the puzzle. Even in a loss, this was a pretty big day for the perpetually rebuilding Raiders. - - - - - - - Frank Schwab is the editor of Shutdown Corner on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip?
