Melvin Gordon, Chargers have reportedly made no progress on new contract

Melvin Gordon has still yet to report to the Los Angeles Chargers as he seeks a long-term contract extension, but the team still seems intent on not giving it to him before the start of the regular season. Gordon and the Chargers have made no progress toward a new deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The star running back still insists he is willing to miss regular-season games if that doesn’t change. Gordon is set to earn $5.6 million in the final year of his rookie contract this season, and L.A. has the option of using the franchise tag on him next offseason. That would make the situation even messier, but it gives the team leverage. The 26-year-old wants to be traded if the Chargers aren’t going to extend him, but they have not given his agent permission to explore that avenue.
