    Report: Chargers look to trade up for Rivers’ heir apparent

    We already know that the Los Angeles Chargers were linked to first-round quarterbacks heading into the start of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday.Instead, the team decided to go with value in selecting stud safety Derwin James No. 17 overall.Still in the market to find a future quarterback beyond Phillip Rivers, the Chargers are now reportedly interested in moving up in the second round Friday for Oklahoma State product Mason Rudolph. There was a ton of buzz that Rudolph might inch his way into the bottom third of the first round. But once Lamar Jackson fell to 32 overall, it was readily apparent that the strong-armed quarterback would have to wait until Day 2.The idea of adding Rudolph to the mix makes a ton of sense. Los Angeles would be able to take it slow with him while Rivers plays out the twilight of his career.At 36 years old, Rivers signed a four-year, $83.2 million extension with the Chargers back in 2015.
