    Los Angeles Chargers’ linebacking corps key to making defense elite

    It is all starting to come together for the Los Angeles Chargers’ defense this year. Defensive ends Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are two of the league’s best pass rushers. Defensive backs Casey Hayward and Jason Verrett are both Pro Bowlers. The only thing the Chargers are missing is high-level play out of the linebacking corps.
    Going into the season, Los Angeles’ linebacking corps will be led by third-year middle linebacker Denzel Perryman. The former Miami Hurricane played 12 games last year, recording 72 total tackles, two sacks and an interception. The 72 total tackles ranked him 92nd-overall in the NFL in the category according to sportingcharts.com. A stat that could be considered underwhelming for a middle linebacker.
    If Perryman played those four games he missed last season, and assuming he continued to average six tackles a game like he was, he would have finished with 84 total tackles and would have brought him up to 59th-overall in total tackles. An ideal middle linebacker should be leading hi
