From Donks board
It was not exactly a failed experiment. Before Manning we were void of talent, Manning helped lure free agents. Fox and Manning were responsible for us being in this position in the first place. Now it is time to move on, Release Manning and the 19 mil we save can help keep the players that are becoming free agents. Oz will become a FA after 2015, so we need to see what we have in him, and that won't happen with Manning on the roster. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
From the pits to the playoffs.

Manning is still better than any QB the Donks ever had....even Elway. I dont put that loss on him. He may be declining but i think its still a huge team loss. Having that week off screws with the team monentum imo and frankly i think Denver peaked early in the season as a passing team. They turned to the run but just lost that dominant O factor and their D while talented had no swagger and caves imo. Indy had a better game plan to attack Den on both sides of the ball...its proved to be how you beat Denver. Kudos to Indy for taking them out with a few good uppercuts.

Their choice of QB besides Manning was Orton or Tebow, so I think the chances that they are better off with him is pretty good.
Den wouldn't have even been in the running for the division without Manning, let alone a SB favorite.
If Denver fans want to bitch about something, they should be pissed at the ton of money they pissed away on an ineffective defense. In a couple of years, even if those guys continue to play at a high level, they are going to have some cap problems when all their IOU's come due, and if they start to slide, then they are really screwed.

As a media pundit, Nick Hardwick is a lot like he was as a blocker.
Direct and quick.
Hardwick's final show with 1360 AM, coming out of the Week 17 loss at Kansas City, covered a lot of ground. Here, following, were several of the points the longtime Charger standout made:
• Stick to the basics -- Hardwick linked the team's poor offensive showings in 2014 to too many downfield passes, drifting from the short-pass game and abandoning the ground game.
"Every loss we had this year," he said, "it's seemed like, now, we try to get into the second and third window of the defense, which we didn't need to do." Hardwick wanted more quick passes against Kansas City's explosive defense, especially in the first quarter.
• Experience will help Frank Reich -- Asked how much of the offense's struggles owed to the playcalling of Frank Reich, Hardwick said, "It's a collective effort." Injuries were a factor, Hardwick said. He noted that Reich was in his first season as an offensive coordinator. "He's going to improve," he said. Hardwick acknowledged that his close friend Philip Rivers, the starting quarterback since 2006, has the option to tweak or change calls. He estimated Rivers does so about 25 percent of the time.
• Rinehart should stay -- Hardwick linked guard Chad Rinehart's subpar season to the use of five starters at center due to injuries. He said the Chargers should keep Rinehart, who is in the second year of the two-year deal the team gave him last March. "It's hard to play next to somebody you don't completely trust," he said of Rinehart's struggles (an explanation Rinehart didn't buy, at least publicly). The chance to sign 49ers free agent guard Mike Iupati didn't excite Hardwick, who described Iupati as "roastable."
• Maybe on Fluker -- Hardwick said the Chargers likely considered D.J. Fluker a potential guard when they drafted the right tackle out of Alabama in 2013. Drafting a right tackle and moving Fluker to guard could make sense, but he cautioned, "Don't reach for something (at tackle)." Hardwick said Fluker is capable at both guard and tackle; as a guard, he said, Fluker could evoke Leonard Davis, a former Cardinals left tackle who became a three-time Pro Bowler at right guard with Dallas. As for rookie Chris Watt, who finished the year at center, he could back move to guard.
• On-field enforcers wanted -- Hardwick wants the Chargers to hire hard-edged characters, believing the team's structure and veteran leadership help them to fit in. "We've got to bring some bad, bad dudes in here," he said, mentioning ex-Chargers teammates Randall Godfrey and Steve Foley.Go Rivers!
